FRIEDRICH JECKELN IS RECOMMENDED FOR A GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD
Importnat partly-printed D.S., 4pp. 4to., 'Headquarters Heeresgruppe Nord', May 23, 1944, in which FRIEDRICH JECKELN (1895-1946), Higher SS and Police Leader in the occupied Soviet Union responsible for the deaths of over 100,000 Jews, is recommended for the award of the prestigious German Cross in Gold. The document is signed on the first page by Heer Gen. GEORG LINDEMANN (1884–1963), then commanding the 18th Army during the Soviet Kingisepp–Gdov Offensive. The document sets forth Jeckeln's previous positions within the SS, and his other awards. The document may be incomplete, as a third leaf should have been present setting forth the reason for the award. Still, complete in itself. File holes and a few mended marginal tears. An intriguing document with a Heer general requesting an award for an SS contemporary - especially since Jeckeln had already received a German Cross in Gold on 19 December 1943 as SS-Obergruppenführer and General of the Polizei in Kampfgruppe Jeckeln.
