WAFFEN-SS SOLDIER FIGHTS RUSSIAN PARTISANS
Great content Waffen-SS soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., 'In the East', Oct. 24, 1943. 'Winand' writes 'Irmgard' in pencil, in part: '...greetings from Russia...Last week we were hunting partisans and combed through a large forest. We chased the vagabonds that blew up a small bridge for three days...we had to crawl through thick underbrush and I scratched up my face...be we didn't find a one of them, because they aren't stupid and already have good hiding places or find accommodation with the locals...The Russians are now attacking our positions regularly, mostly with storm troops which number 50 to 100 men...we're always chasing these rascals out of our position...the bandits have superior numbers...One time we ran into a strong enemy storm troop in no man's land. It's a good think we noticed them early enough or they would have done us all in and then perhaps we would now be forced laborers in Leningrad...The Russians are becoming ever more impudent...the Russians, in the near future, will launch a large-scale attack when it begins to freeze. We've taken 21 prisoners so far...' Very good, with 'SS-Feldpost'-marked transmittal envelope.
