DUNKIRK AND DESTROYED FRENCH CITIES PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM
Impressive photograph album showing the destruction of British vessels at Dunkirk, as well as destroyed buildings at that city and dozens of other cities between Dunkirk and Paris, all gathered by a German soldier headed west just before and immediately following the fall of France. The album itself is a relic, as it bears gold lettering 'Dunkirchen' ('Dunkirk') on the cover and could only have been obtained by the soldier while he was in the city itself. The first twenty or so photographs show sunken British vessels offshore and on the beach, one being a passenger ship literally blasted in half and washed ashore. Fully half of the 174 images in the album depict utterly destroyed buildings, towns and villages, others showing captured Black colonial troops, occupation forces in Parise, and a few social images including dancers at the Folies Bergeres. The 12 x 9.75 in. green faux leather front cover has loose and has been re-attached, some wear to covers, contents are fine.
