WEHRPASS AND PHOTO ALBUM OF DR. OTTO THIEM, ART. REGT. 217, K.I.A. 1941
Grouping including a wehrpass and photograph album owned by Dr. Otto Thiem, commander of II/Artillery Regt. 217. Thiem, born in 1884 in Wallerstein, served in both wars and his wehrpass shows he received the Iron Cross, 2nd Class, Bavarian Military Merit Order, 4th Class with Swords, Pv. Iron Class, 1st Class, and Clasp for the Iron Cross, 2nd Class. He participated in the Polish and French campaigns, and in Barbarossa, but was killed in action on June 25, 1941, three days after its launch. Thiem's rather melancholy photograph album contains 90 photographs of various sizes. They show the old veteran officer in uniform and smiling, with fellow officers and with his fellow lawyers meeting on a holiday, marching S.A. men, the newly-built Autobahn, Hitler Youth parading, vacation settings with his children, his son competing in a track event, etc. Very good.
