ARPAD WIGAND
(1906 – 1983) German SS-Oberführer and war criminal, served as the SS and Police Leader in Warsaw from 4 August 1941 until 23 April 1943. As an aide to Erich von dem Bach Zelewski he first suggested the site of the former artillery barracks at Oswiecim for a concentration camp in January 1940. This site would evolve into the Auschwitz concentration camp which would undertake the murder of up to 1,000,000 Jews. Especially rare war-date T.L.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Apr. 21, 1943 - two days before leaving his position in Warsaw to become regiment adjutant in the SS-Gebirgsjäger Regiment 1. Wigand writes to the SS Personnel Department setting forth the dates of his promotions in order to establish his level of seniority, undoubtedly as it applied to his pay scale. Lightly toned, a small split from bottom margin.
