AUSTRIAN NAZI LEADER ASKS FOR REPORT ON SEIZED JEWISH ASSETS
Good content T.L.S. on the letterhead of the 'Reich Commissioner for the Reunification of Austria with the German Reich', 1p. 4to., [Vienna], June 20, 1939, an initialed retained copy sent to the Central Office for Jewish Emigration. The writer, very likely JOSEF BURCKEL (1895-1944), requests: '...I should like to have a detailed report on how and to what extent migration via exchange of goods was effected, whether and to what extent...Jewish assets have been transferred...' Docketed, several file holes, else very good. Burckel frequently embezzled confiscated money and property instead of turning it over to the state, earning him the displeasure of the Nazi hierarchy and he was eventually removed from his post in Vienna.
