GERMAN RACIAL STUDY BOOK WITH 'REINHARD HEYDRICH' CALLING CARD
Printed book: 'Kleine Rassenkunde des Deutschen Volkes' ('Brief Racial Study of the German People') by Dr. Hans Gunther (Munich: J. F. Lehmanns Verlag), 1938. 154pp. 8vo. with illustrated dust wrapper. Affixed to the front flyleaf is a calling card reading: 'Reinhard Heydrich SS-Obergruppenfuhrer und General der Polizei'. The card may have been placed there by Heydrich (although he had his own bookplate), his wife following his death, or some other party...or it may be entirely spurious and is therefore simply sold as a curiosity added to the book. Author Hans Günther (1891–1968) was a German writer and eugenicist, also known as 'Race Günther' ('Rassengünther') or the 'Race Pope' ('Rassenpapst'). He is considered to have been a major influence on Nazi racialist thought.His thoughts are reflected in this illustrated treatise showing the different 'racial characteristics' of individuals from throughout Germany. Also shown are Blacks, Jews, and other 'lesser' races, as one would expect.
