PRISONERS ARE MURDERED AT NEUENGAMME SUBCAMP
Carbon copy of a typed letter in German, 1p. legal folio, Flensberg, Sept. 21, 1945, sent from the town administration of Flensberg to a committee of former concentration camp prisoners, detailing the deaths of thousands of political prisoners at the Drutte labor camp - a subcamp of Neuengamme. In part: 'on 8.4.1945, about 5000 prisoners were taken by train from the camp at Drutte to Celle...On 9.4.1945, at 11 a.m., there was an air raid; 3000 men killed, mostly by incendiary bombs...During the night of 9/10.4.1945, about 800 prisoners were shot by SS...then a move-back to Bergen-Belsen with the small remaining number of prisoners - about 500 to 600 - by means of a 3.5 days march...incidents of this kind may perhaps be of service to you when you are forming a view...' This last section likely refers to the 1946 war crimes trial of eleven Neuengamme defendants, suggesting that the recipients of this letter were somehow involved with the trial. Very good, with full translation.
