SS-DIRLEWANGER BRIGADE IDENTIFICATION DISC Very rare soldier's identification disc from the notorious 6th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, more commonly known as the Dirlewanger Brigade". The disc is the standard-sized 2.75 in. alloy disc, this example stamped twice: '975 SS-DIRLEWANGER'. In excellent 'dug' condition, as is always the case as none of these murderers were taken prisoner. This is a duplicate obtained from one of the most recognized international Holocaust collectors, and not one of the copies sometimes seen on the market. Composed of criminals expected to die fighting in the front-line, the unit was led by Oskar Dirlewanger. Originally formed for anti-partisan duties against the Polish resistance; the unit eventually saw action in Slovakia, Hungary, and against the Soviet Red Army near the end of the war. During its operations it engaged in the rape, pillaging and mass murder of civilians.
