GERMAN OFFICER'S DRESS SWORD WITH SCABBARD AND PORTEPEE
Very desirable German dove's head officer's sword, 32.5 in. blade, 37.5 in. overall. The ricasso bears the maker's stamp of 'F.W. Holler' of Solingen, and the blade bears an excellent shine and remains incredibly clean, with just a few small spots of surface abrasion, mentioned only for accuracy. The gilded brass hilt and P-guard are beautifully cast with oak leaves and acorns, and one side of the crossguard bears an engraved national eagle. The details on the hilt and guard remain quite well-defined, though the brass bears some slight scuffs and surface abrasion and one screw near the hilt is slightly warped. The wire wrapping around the handle is still tight. The black scabbard retains much of its original black finish, though paint is cracking very slightly and some small scuffs and spots of paint loss are present. The original silver wire portepee is also present, though the leather strap is cracking and notably worn. Overall, the piece is in very good to fine condition, and is in better condition than is typically seen.
