INERT AMERICAN 'BUTTERFLY' BOMB
An inert American 'M83' copy of a German SD2 'Butterfly Bomb', approx. 9 x 9 in., bearing red-and-yellow paint at the top and bearing a stamp reading in part: 'M 83...INERT...' Modeled after the German 'butterfly bombs', many of these bomblets were clustered in the US M28 and M29 cluster bombs during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. As such, this bomb type was one of the first cluster bombs ever used in combat and it proved to be a highly effective weapon. Minor paint loss throughout, some taping, else very good.
