JOHN V. 'BLACK JACK' BOUVIER III
(1891 - 1957) American Wall Street stockbroker and socialite. He was the father of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and of socialite Lee Radziwill, and was the father-in-law of John F. Kennedy. His nickname, Black Jack", referred to his perpetual dark tan and his flamboyant lifestyle. Rare, fine association D.S., 1p. 6.5 x 2.75 in., a check made out and signed by Bouvier, New York, May 26, 1953 drawing on bankers Laidlaw & Co. to pay his daughter LEE BOUVIER CANFIELD the sum of $50.00. In the 'Memo' area, he writes: 'May Allowance, late. But you are lucky to get it' She endorses the check: 'Mrs. Michael Canfield', having married book publishing magnate Michael Canfield only a few weeks earlier! Punch and ink cancels, else very good.
