RESOLUTELY OVERTHROW THE ANTI-PARTY CLIQUE OF WANG, ZHANG, JIANG AND YAO!
Especially rare Chinese poster: 'Resolutely overthrow the anti-Party clique of Wang, Zhang, Jiang and Yao!', 21.5 x 31 in., Lu Xun Art Academy, October, 1976. Folds with some very small tears thereat, a 1/4 in. hole along one fold has been backed, some soiling commensurate with age, still overall very good. Shortly before this poster was issued, on October 6, 1976 Hua Guofeng ordered the Gang of Four arrested. Jiang Qing, Mao's widow, appears at bottom left. Top left is Wang Hongwen, top right Zhang Chunqiao, bottom right Yao Wenyuan. After the arrests, a massive propaganda campaign was launched to discredit them and praise Mao's successor, Hua Guofeng. Nonetheless, relatively few such virulent posters were produced as so many people had already suffered under the reign of these leaders. An especially rare and evocative poster.
