DAVID SCOTT
(b. 1932) American astronaut, the seventh person to walk on the moon and the first person to drive the Lunar Rover there. His blue ink signature on an unusual letter addressed to him from an Illinois optometrist EMILY M. BROWN, reading: 'Enclosed herewith are the two full-sheet philatelic covers like the ones made for you, and each astronaut as they flew...and which need your signature for the SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION collection. You men collectively are yet the only ones to have a complete set of these...as even the Smithsonian is receiving only the Apollo series in memory of Virgil Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chafee as per my talks...with Mr. Michael Collins...The unit still needs eight men's signatures to complete...I sent some of the smaller covers for each of your children...Would you please...sign thru your name-post-marks on each of the large covers and return them (not present)...' Scott signs the top of the letter in blue ink, adding: 'Nicely done. Good Luck...Aug 1, '81'. Fine.
