(b. 1928) Astronaut and a retired Navy captain, most famous as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, which suffered a critical failure en route to the Moon but was brought back safely to Earth by the efforts of the crew and mission control. Signed book: his account of the Apollo 13 mission 'Lost Moon' (New York: Houghton Mifflin Co.), 1994. 378pp. 8vo. with pictorial dust jacket. Boldly signed in black ink on the title page, and cosigned by his coauthor JEFFREY KLUGER. Fine condition. Sold with a promotional leaflet for the National Space Society, typed by Lovell and bearing his facsimile signature at the conclusion.
