LYNETTE FROMME WRITES TO CHARLES MANSON
(b. 1948) 'Squeaky', follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. Lengthy A.L.S. 'R' (for 'Red'), 10pp. 4to., [n.p.], 1980, written to CHARLES MANSON. In part: '...There are so few things to do in the world that could ever hold my interest...like we keep being born & look & say 'are we still doing this?'...Kids getting drunk & wishing for money. Don't know much about anything unless they're country kids...sending a Halloween present so it passes the eyes of Ka to you...no letter from Mel [Manson's biographer NUEL EMMONS] yet...he wants to be like you & not be under R & B [SANDRA GOOD aka 'Blue']...Appreciate is a word I've used a lot...it's like a prayer in no words...not said but lived - well knowing it's a lonely prayer...It could feel like having millions of stars all over your body or like the light from the stars touching you - connected by that life to infinite possibility...satisfaction can only come from giving it not trying to take it or stare it up...I told [B] in last letter that I sometimes played under her ego because I didn't want her to leave me, and she knew it and hated it and sometimes played on it from Ka...it showed her that I wouldn't do what she always wanted (leave her)...all that Cm & red stuff is an illusion in her own mind...she projects so much confidence that it would be heard not to pay attention and yet its all her trip on nothing. I feel we are the same...' Mailing folds, else fine. Sold with transmittal envelope, signed 'L.F. Davis Hall' at the return address and bearing a Oct. 27, 1980 cancel. From a grouping of Fromme's letters in the estate of Manson's biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote 'Manson in His Own Words'. -
