LYNETTE FROMME WRITES TO CHARLES MANSON
(b. 1948) 'Squeaky', follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. Very lengthy A.L.S. with great content, 8pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], written to CHARLES MANSON. In small part: '...I'm in one of those ornery women's moods tonite where I feel like smoking and eating everything in the room...it seems to be a regular cycle...no matter what I say people relate it to C.M. it's like my love for you is a harness and people blame you for it even when I don't mention you...I thought it would be better for you not to be associated w/ me & B [Sandra Good aka 'Blue']...I got the radio talk-show tape of me...drilled me about the murders...asking questions like D.A. book was fact & I explained it was 85% untrue...got calls from people who believe you manipulated us with drugs...I saw reality to them - how we had been taking LSD & smoking weed for years before we met you. They wanted to know if you are the messiah, I said to me yes. They wanted to know if you want to be leader...I laughed and said how you don't want to lead anything but how I think you're the only one who can reset the country to life priority...'. She signs 'R' (for 'Red') at the conclusion. Mailing folds, else fine. Sold with two partial A.L.s (unsigned), largely rambling content, though discussing her mother's German heritage and her parents' marriage for two pages. Sold with transmittal envelope, signed 'L.F. Davis Hall' at the return address and bearing a Oct. 27 cancel with the year largely illegible. From a grouping of Fromme's letters in the estate of Manson's biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote 'Manson in His Own Words'.
