Archive of Documents - Carmel Mizrachi - Palestine
A large collection of documents and letters to Yaakov Shapira, the manager of Carmel Mizrahi, the Carmel Wine Growers Cooperative, Rishon Le Zion and Zichron Jacob. The collection includes over 100 documents, and over 200 pages, most of them relate to the winery, and shed light on the winery operations in the 1920s and 1930s, and on the challenges it faced. Included are letters from the winery distributors and representatives around the world, letters and documents related to labor and employees, contracts, business negotiations and more. Some of the documents relate to Palestine Brewery and the Large Mills of Eretz Israel in Haifa. Others mention the Arab Revolt in Palestine and its influence on the winery ("the workers are afraid to go out"). One letter reports the repair of equipment, and many others report information regarding sales, orders, and challenges faced by the distrbutors overseas. Most of the documents are from the 1920s and 1930s, and a small portion is from the 1940s and 1950s. Most letters and documents are in Hebrew, English and French, a few letters are in Yiddish and German. Size varies, condition varies, good average condition.
