Published: Paris 1825; Has publisher's / cartographer's blind stamp / embossed seal above map title - "Carte encyprotipe du fonds de l'auteur" surrounding Brué's monogram initials "AB" | From the "Atlas Universel de Geographie physique, politique, ancienne et moderne"

Inscriptions: "Gravée sous la direction de l'Auteur" [Engraved under the direction of the Author] in lower left margin, and "Atlas Universel Pl. 33" in upper right margin.

Further Description: A Remarkable map of North America, exhibiting early details of Lewis & Clark's expedition and up to date information on the search for a northwest passage. Combining excellent detail from the expedition with information from Pike, Humboldt and others. There are two Salt Lakes, each linked by Rivers to the Pacific Ocean and each other. Excellent detail in Texas. Abundant early Indian details. Excellent detail in Western Canada and Russian America. Detailed treatment of the drainage system of the Upper Mississippi, Missouri and Columbia Rivers, likely one of the most advanced of the era. The region immediately west of the Mississippi retains the various Spanish regional names, including St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Lawrence, etc. Missouri and Columbia Territories dominate the Western US claims. Early naming of the Yellowstone River. California Missions are named.
