Large Figural Oil Painting by important English artist James Northcote R.A. (British, 1746-1831), Entitled THE MILKMAID WITH HER DOG (by Christie's 2019), THE LITTLE MILK MAID (by Sotheby's 2006), and GIRL AND DOG IN LANDSCAPE (via label on verso) | Signed and dated by the artist in the lower left of canvas, 1785 | Verso contains a paper history label, Christies Auction Label, and possibly a Deaccession label / number | Housed in a beautiful antique gold gilt gesso wood frame | Approx. Dimensions: Image: 50" H x 40" W; Frame: 60" H x 50" | Provenance: Label states the painting was authenticated "as per expertise of Sir Chas. Holmes". Painting was sold by Sotheby's London at the 'Important British Pictures' Auction on June 7, 2006 (with a second Northcote painting) for $17,823 [Estimated value by Sotheby's $18,566 — $27,849)(Lot 171). Auctioned by Christie's New York, Rockefeller Center, on May 1, 2019 at 'Old Masters Paintings and Sculpture' Auction, Lot 353.
