HENRY WATKINS ALLEN
(1820 - 1866) Confederate brigadier general and the last Confederate governor of Louisiana, serving from January 1864 to May 1865. He escaped to Mexico, and lived and worked there until his death. Scarce war-date L.S. as Governor, 1p. oblong 8vo., Shreveport, Apr. 6, 1864, to Lt. Col. Mittenberger. In full: 'Please let Capt. A. F. Brown have such arms as he may require for the use of the militia'. Fine.
