Hanukkah lamp. Constantine, Algeria, [late 19th century / early 20th century].
Brass, cast; copper rivets.
Openwork. Back plate consists of two sections fastened together with rivets and decorated with symmetrical vegetal pattern. Side panels bear matching symmetrical vegetal pattern. Each side panel surmounted by bird. Back plate surmounted by hand-shaped ornament ("hamsa"). Row of oil fonts with pinched spouts for wicks. Servant light attached to middle upper portion of back plate.
This model of Hannukah lamp was first created by the craftsman Tzemah Asson [Hasson]. A lamp with an identical design can be found in the Israel Museum's Zeyde Schulmann Collection; the craftsman's son, Refael Asson, had originally presented that lamp to Schulmann as a gift.
Height: 25.5 cm. Width: 22 cm. Good condition.
