A VERY LARGE AND FINELY PAINTED ICON OF THE ANASTASIS WITH 16 FEASTS MINIATURMALEREI Russian, Palekh, 19th century Russland, Palech, 19. Jh. Tempera on wood panel. The central image focuses on Christ’s Descent into Hell and Anastasis. 16 images which include episodes from the lives of the Virgin and Christ, as well as the Old Testament Trinity and the Raising of the True Cross surround the main scene. The colours employed are intense and gold is used for the background. 53.3 x 44.6 cm.
