Pri Chadash on the Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, by Rabbi Chizkiya di Silva, Amsterdam, 1730. Comments by rabbis from the Papo family, relatives of the Pele Yoetz.
Pri Chadash is one of the most widely accepted and significant compositions on the Shulchan Aruch. The volume of this work on Yoreh De’ah was first published during the author’s lifetime, while the part on Orach Chaim was published by the author’s son, in two editions. The first edition (Amsterdam, 1706) is on the halachot of Rosh Chodesh (section 417) until the end, while the second edition, on the first part of Orach Chaim (from the halachot of psukei d’zimra until the halachot pertaining to the synagogue – sections 46-149) was first published in the edition before us (with the inclusion of what was previously printed in 1706). This book also has additional commentaries on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim and Yore De’ah.
In the volume before us, after the title page the name of the owner, Yaakov Papo, appears in Sephardic script. At the end of the preface Yitzchak Papo’s name appears as a stylized signature in similar handwriting. These are apparently the signatures of the members of the family of Rabbi Eliezer ben Yitzchak Papo, author of Pele Yoetz, whom we know had a younger brother named Yaakov.
There are a few comments on the pages of the book, also in Sephardic script, and also apparently by Rabbi Yaakov Papo.
The book is complete. Good condition. Original binding.
