One of a kind item! One of the original wooden ornaments of the Jewish New Synagogue in Posen!A beautiful hand-painted bible theme ornament: "The tables of laws" called in Hebrew "Lachot a Brit". Jews and Christians believe that Moses got it directly from God and he gave them to the Jews as basic laws of coexisting. This huge panel was part of the ornamentation of the "New Synagogue" in Posen until 1940, when Germans decided to transform the synagogue into a swimming pool for Wehrmacht soldiers after the occupation of Poland. As far as we know from previous owner, this item was taken and preserved by one of the Polish employees who kept it as a curiosity. For over 50 years it had bee in a house in Poznań until it as sold and new tenants wanted to get rid of old objects from this apartment. That way, this item went to one of the antique shops in Poznan, where it was bought about 15 years ago. It is made of wood and hand painted on a board. It is really delicate and needs to undergo some maintenance and restoration. Period of creation is circa end of 19th century. Please pay attention to the rub which is in the picture. Incredibly beautiful work, the artist showed great artistry. An outstanding object miraculously saved during the Holocaust by chance! This is undoubtedly a museum piece! It appears in the book by Norbert Podlesny and Daniel de Varannes "A Glimpse of Evil - Part I of a Trilogy", the best reference book ever published about the Holocaust artifacts and collectibles.
