Volume with two books on the debate over the kabbalah—Emunat Chachamim and Megilat Sdarim. Warsaw 1884. Copy of the Admor of Drohovitch-Sadigura.

Volume with two books on the debate/proof of the truth of the kabbalah:

1. Emunat Chachamim by Rabbi Aviad Sar Shalom Bozila, Av Beit Din of Mantua. With an article entitled “Avnet Bad” at the beginning by Dov Berish Torsh, who brought the work to the publisher. At the end is a pretty rhymed poem “LaMenatze’ach al Mot Menachem”, which he wrote to create a name for his brother Menachem who died without children. In the middle is “Me’ata Tehila”, approbations from geonim of the period: Rabbi Yosef the Edut b’Yehosef, Rabbi Yisrael Yehoshua of Kotna and Rabbi Yitzhak Elchanan Spector of Kovna and others. Printed in Warsaw 1884. 48, [9], 14-154, 4 pages.

2. Megilat Sdarim L’Hit’aneg by “Avi HaMeshorerim, Rosh HaPaytanim, Rabbi Yehuda bar Mordechai HaLevi Ish Horwitz, including the debate and research between mekubalim and students and researchers”. Written in the format of parables and riddles with nice rhymes. Approbations from rabbis of Prague. Printed in Warsaw 1884. [4], 36 leaves. Binding partially detached, some pages detached, light stains and tears, old binding is worn, leather spine inscribed, overall good condition.

Throughout the copy are many stamps of: “Haim Meir Yehiel Shapira Drohovitch (Galicia)”. Admor Rabbi Haim Meir Yehiel Shapira of Drohovitch (1864-1924) was the son of Rabbi Avi-ezri Zelig of Satmar. He was a descendant of the Maggid of Kozhnitz, grandson of the Saraf of Mogilnitza (after whom he was named), and the grandson of the Admor Rabbi Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura. He was son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzhak of Bohosh. In 1885 he began to serve as Admor of Sadigura in Drohovitch, in the style of the Ruzhin dynasty. Like all Admorim of this dynasty, he was dedicated to encouraging the settling of Israel (after meeting in his youth Sir Oliphant during his visit to his grandfather in Sadigura) and was a founder of the Agudas Yishuv Eretz Yisrael.

In 1922 he moved to Jerusalem with his mother and around 30 families of his followers, and he built a beit midrash there. He encouraged his children to earn a living working rather than depending on the work of others. His sons were: Rabbi Avraham Yaakov the “Admor HaTzayar”, Rabbi Avi-ezri, Rabbi Yitzhak (son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Panzer). He wrote HaShalom v’HaAchdut” Drohovitch 1914.
