Letter signed by the Admor Rabbi Gedalya Moshe of Zewil—Elul 1947.
Letter addressed to members of the Badatz Eida Charedit regarding a discussion related to dinei mishpacha. 12 lines long in sofer script, signed with the full signature of Rabbeinu ‘Gedaly’ Moshe [ben] HaRav Shlomo Goldman.” 17x19.5cm. Good condition, ink stains, folding creases.
The Admor Rabbi Gedalya Moshe of Zewil was born in 1887, the son of Rabbi Shlomo of Zewil. After his father immigrated to Israel, he was appointed rabbi of Zewil in place of his father. He preserved the community at great personal sacrifice, until he was arrested and sent to 7 years hard labor in Siberia. In 1937, only a few years after his release, he moved to Israel and joined his father.
After his father’s death he was appointed his successor, but he only managed to run the community for a few years, dying in 1949. His grave serves as a pilgrimage site today, with a special segula for Monday-Thursday-Monday visits to ensure success.
