Cooperation between Rosh Av Beis Din of HaEdah HaCharedis the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Epstein and the Chief Rabbi the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yitzchak Nissim for the struggle against autopsies, Jerusalem, 1966. 


The letter contains a manifesto hand-signed by the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Epstein Rosh Av Beis Din of HaEdah HaCharedis in Jerusalem, in which the Rosh Av Beis Din clarifies that autopies of any type are forbidden and contrary to the Halacha unless they are done for Pikuach Nefesh and by the order of a prominent Rav authorized to do so. The letter is a result of a rare collaboration between HaEdah HaCharedis and the Rosh Av Beis Din the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Epstein and the Rishon LeZion and Chief Rabbi the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Nissim in the struggle against autopsies. 


Between the lines of the typewritten letter, the Rosh Av Beis Din adds by hand that the authorized Rav should be accepted by all rabbis, in accordance with Maran the Rosh Av Beis Din's uncompromising war against biased rabbis and so forth. The address typewritten on the letter is that of the office of the Rishon LeZion. 


The Rosh Av Beis Din the Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Epstein, one of the greatest Tzaddikim and Geonim of Jerusalem. At a young age, started serving as Dayan of the Beis Din of HaEdah HaCharedis in the days of Mara De'Ara Yisroel the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. In 1949, when the Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis was appointed Gaon Av Beis Din, he succeeded him as Rosh Av beis Din serving in this position for many years.
