With the outbreak of the war, he escaped to the USA and from there conducted the campaign for saving Jews from burning Europe (as part of Va'ad HaHatzalah, he used to send his disciples packages of food and Sifrei Kodesh and after the USA joined the war, used to send the packages from Argentine and Uruguay).
