Interesting, postcard with ancient nail from the Western Wall.
To the nail is attached a note written in English: "Taken from the Wailing Place. The Jew knock this nail in between the rocks, believing they have a share in the temple of Solomon". In fact the truth is different and it comes from an old Jewish custom of knocking a nail in the rocks of the Western Wall before going on a long trip. The belief is that the nail will keep them safe based on the saying "And stuck his stake in a faithful place" (Isaiah chapter 22:22).The nail knocking custom is found in different religions as well, such as the Christian custom of making a nest in the wall of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem (some believe that's where originated the practice of putting notes in between the stones of the Western Wall).
