Booklet for the Jews of Budapest Following WWII
Printed blessing letter for the members of the Budapest Jewish community, Sh'erit Ha’Pletah, for the new Jewish year and the high holidays. The letter was printed shortly after the liberation of Hungary from the Nazis. The letter relates to the holocaust and encourages the members of the community of its glorious past: Let us meditate with a humble soul and grateful heart on the upcoming high holydays, and on on the fact that the Omnipotent allowed us to live to see these majestic days. Let us think with sympathetic sorrow on those brothers and sisters who are walking in the valley of tears throughout the world...Let our consolation-seeking soul turn toward the future. and let us look for encouragement and hope from the past. On the cover appears an image of the inauguration of the Great Synagogue of Budapest in 1859. Prepared by Dr. Erno Munkacsi, and published by the Social Work Committee of the Jewish Faith Community. Circa 1945. Hungarian. 4 pages. Approximately 22X15 cm. Average condition, stains, pen markings, losses to the margins, wear.
