Classic: Sefer Chareidim, Venice 1601. First Edition.
A complete copy of Sefer Chareidim, written by R. Elazar Azikri of Safed (1533-1600), and printed at Venice in 1601 after his death.
R. Elazar Azikri was a leading Torah scholar of his day and a contemporary of Safed’s greatest Torah leaders, such as R. Yosef Karo, R. Issac Luria - Arizal, and R. Moshe Kordevero.
Present in this work is the famed Piyyut “Yedid Nefesh”, which was published here for the first time. Although commonly attributed to R. Azikri, recent findings, however, have raised the possibility that Yedid Nefesh actually predates Rabbi Elazar by about a century, leaving the true authorship a mystery.
In overall moderate-good condition. Title page torn at places and is attached to cardstock for support. Stains and worming to many leaves, at times affecting text.
