“The Yeshiva has Increased to 400 Students!” A Fascinating Letter from R. Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman From the Early Days of the Yeshivas Ponivezh. Bnei Brak, 1955.

A truly fascinating and detailed letter to a benefactor - “Netziv” of the Yeshiva from the very early days of its establishment. R. Kahaneman is very pleased with its growth, and exclaims with excitement that the The Yeshiva has increased to approximately 400 students!

We also find approximately 10 additional lines in the handwriting of the Ponivezher Rav, with his autograph. These lines were added as a personal note to this specific benefactor in addition to the generic typed letter intended for all donors.

We can assume that this content is exclusive and unique to this letter only, since it was written to R. Yitzchak Sadin, who was originally from Ponivezh and shared a special connection with the Ponivezher Rav.

The raw emotion and excitement of the Rav upon fulfilling his dream is apparent in these few lines. He writes how Yeshivas Ponivezh is an everlasting and eternal memory for all Yeshivos destroyed in Europe, and points out that of all the communities destroyed in Europe, only Ponivezh merited that its namesake won’t be forgotten!
