A fine grouping of promotion and award documents for Oberst HARALD VON LEWINSKI (1890 - 1960). Von Lewinski, an officer in the 17th Army, Adjutant to Generaloberst Hermann Hoth in 1942 when Hoth was in charge of the 17th Army in Ukraine. Von Lewinski was a relative of Erich von Manstein. - The most important document is Von Lewinski's promotion from Hauptmann to Major effective 1. August 1936, signed personally by ADOLF HITLER in Berlin, 2. August 1936. Countersigned by Generalfeldmarschall WERNER VON BLOMBERG in the lower right. 1 page, 8.25 x 11.75inches, one fold. WITH: Von Lewinski's promotion from Major to Oberstleutnant, effective 1. October 1940, issued at Fuhrer Headquarters, 14. September 1940, with Hitler's facsimile signature, countersigned in ink by Generalfeldmarschall WALTHER VON BRAUCHITSCH in the lower right. 4 pages, 10 x 14 inches, one fold. WITH: Promotion from Obersteutnant to Oberst, the highest rank Von Lewinski would achieve, effective 1. April 1942, issued at Fuhrer Headquarters, 8. April 1942, signed by Hitler in print. Countersigned by Generalfeldmarschall WILHELM KEITEL in the lower right. in the original presentation folder with gilt titles and the national eagle on the cover. 10 x 14 inches, 4 pages, with the original cord present. The document shows one fold.
Further included is von Lewinski's award document for the War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords, dated Headquarters 25. October 1941, with a printed signature of Walther von Brauchitsch, countersigned by General der Infantrie BODEWIN KEITEL, younger brother of Generalfeldmarschall Wilhelm Keitel. 1 page, 5.75 x 8.25 inches.
WITH: Award document for the Sudetenland Medal (Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938), issued at Liegnitz, 2. August 1939. 1 page, 6 x 8.25 inches. Also included are two documents dating back to his service in World War 1, one award document for the Hanseatic Cross (Hamburgisches Hanseatenkreuz), issued 14. July 1917 by the city of Hamburg. 1 page, 8 x 13, mailing folds. The second document was issued in Vienna, 7. February 1918, awarding Von Lewinski effective 5. February 1918 the Military Merit Cross III. Class with War Decoration III. Class. 1 page, 9.25 x 15 inches, mailing folds
