Brig Jane and Cutter Beaufoy Egnraving, After Huggins.
Handolored engraving, sheet 18.5 x 23 inches.

The ship 'Jane' sailed from London 5 October 1822 on a sealing and whaling cruise. This was at least her fourth cruise as a sealer or whaler. The plate's inscription reads: 'To James Weddell, Esq. E. N., the Officers and Seamen under his command. This plate representing the brig 'Jane' and cutter 'Beaufoy' on 20th February, 1823, bearing up in 74:15' S (being the highest southern latitude ever reached) is most respectfully dedicated by their very obedient and humble servant W. J. Huggins. Engraved by E. Duncan. London, published by W. J. Huggins, October, 1826. The vessel returned to London 13 July 1824 with a cargo of 60 casks, 3,076 skins, 14 leopard seal skins, hides and horns.
