Bronze sculpture "Bodhisattva", China, 18th century

Period: Qing Dynasty, 18th century. Figure in bronze partially gilded and polychrome. It retains the original gilding and polychrome. The Buddha figure is seated in "vajrasana" posture on a lotus stand, with a serene face, one hand reclining in his lap and the other raised in a "vitarkamudra" gesture. She wears a monastic robe with different pendants around her neck and long earrings in her ears. On her head she wears a profusely decorated tiara with an inlay in the center and her hair is tied back. On the base she has a symbol.

Size: 17.8 cm.

 

Provenance:

Acquired in the 1930s in Asia by a French private collection.

Acquired at Christie's, June 22, 2016, lot 111, by a European collector.
