Invitation to the wedding of the son of the Admor of Povianitz (Gur). 1921

Invitation to the wedding of Yitzhak Meir, son of the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Alter, to the bride “Yocheved Rivka” bat Rabbi Moshe Aharon Wallerstein of Krezefitz, which was supposed to take place in Chenstchov. At the beginning is a pretty, long blessing written as an acrostic of the bride and groom’s names, underneath are the meshudchim and the date. The inviter is the Admor himself.


Size: 14x22cm. Tape, creases, stains and light tears, overall fair condition.


The Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel Alter hy”d (1878-1942) was the youngest son of the Sfat Emet and brother of the Imrei Emet of Gur. He was a leader of Polish Jewry between the wars and one of its biggest activists. He served as leader of the Agudas Rabbanim in Poland and a member of the Council of Torah Sages. He was a founder of Charedi journalism in Poland. During the Shoah he was a public leader in the Warsaw Ghetto. He perished alongside his family in Treblinka. His son, Rabbi Haim Eliezer, immigrated to Jerusalem, where he ran the Sfat Emet yeshiva. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Henichc Vidislovsky.
