A FINE ICON SHOWING THE SMOLENSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD WITH AN EMBROIDERED OKLAD Russian, late 18th century (icon), Russian, late 18th century (oklad) Tempera on wood panel. Overlaid with a metal-gilt riza. The embroidery on the garments made of seed-pearls, the hems lined with translucent paste, the borders and haloes engraved with scrolls on stippled ground. Minor areas of retouching. 35.7 x 31 cm.
