A FINELY PAINTED WEEK ICON Central Russian, Palekh, early 19th century Tempera on a cradled wood panel. Tempera on wood panel. The haloes made og gold. The central composition divided into four registers showing the Anastasis, the Synaxis of the Archangels, the Decollation of John the Baptist, the Annunciation, the Washing of the Feet together with the Last Supper and the Crucifixion. In the centre Christ enthroned, flanked by the Mother of God, St. John the Baptist and the archangels. Below saints, martyrs, Russian Bishops and Metropolitans, monastic saints. The upper border showing the Eucharist. The corners portraying the four evangelists. Painted in great detail. Minor retouching. 35 x 30.6 cm.
