***Auction Highlight*** 1856 S-3 Flying Eagle Cent 1c Graded au58 By SEGS. A lightly circulated chocolate-brown representative of this historically significant issue. 1856 is the rarest date of the small cent denomination, and most examples are either Snow-3 or Snow-9. The former was struck in 1856 in business format for distribution to Washington officials, to demonstrate the cent's new, smaller, and more convenient diameter. Snow-9 proofs were struck in greater quantity during the late 1850s, for sale to collectors. Thus, the Snow-3 cents are originals. Many were eventually spent by their non-numismatic recipients, but the present example did not linger long in circulation before its rare date was noticed. The eagle's breast displays light wear, but the golden-brown surfaces are free from detractions. Wild Strike Doubling on the Date. The snow 3 is the only ms version of the 1856 stuck and it is the only one which was actually made in 1856. It is highly sought from a mintage of 634 pieces! A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
