RABBI NASSAN NATA RABINOWITZ OF MUNICH, INTERESTING CORRESPONDENCE WITH RABBI ELYAHU MENACHEM GOITEIN OF HÖGYESZ, REGARDING PUBLICATION OF VARIANT READINGS OF TALMUD TEXT.

Letter from Rabbi Nassan Nata Rabinowitz of Munich to Rabbi Elyahu Menachem Goitein of Högyesz, with his reply. Rabbi Rabinowitz, famous for his research of old Talmud manuscripts and prints, asks Rabbi Goitein if he has a copy of the first edition of Kesef Nivchar (written by Rabbi Goitein’s grandfather) printed in Prague, and also asks whether he can help him acquire early Talmud editions printed in Venice, Lublin, Krakow and Basel, in exchange for his published works.
Rabbi Goitein, in his reply on the other side of the page, informs his correspondent that he does not have even one copy of the Prague edition of Kesef Nivchar, but he does have a Talmud tractate printed in Krakow in 1605.

Rabbi Nassan Nata Rabinowitz (1835-1889), studied under Rabbi Yosef Padwa of Vilkomir, settled in Keidan - where he became known as the iluy of Keidan, and studied at the Torah centres in Eishishok and Vilna. While visiting Vienna he heard of the ancient Munich Talmud manuscript and travelled to Munich to see it. He settled there and studied the Talmud manuscript and published a multi-volume work Dikdukei Sofrim, recording textual variants of the Talmud.

Rabbi Eliyahu Menachem Goitein (1838-1902), son of Rabbi Zvi Hirsh - Rabbi of Högyesz and son-in-law of Rabbi Yerachmiel Dov Berish Banet Moreh Tzedek of Lipto-szt-Miklos. Disciple of the Ksav Sofer, Rabbi Yochanan Spitz – Rabbi of Tab and of Rabbi Avraham Paper – Dayan of Tab. Succeeded his father as Rabbi of Högyesz in 1860. Responsa and other rabbinic writings published in Zichron Avos.

2 sides. 14.5 x 22 cm. Very good condition.
