A wooden walking stick which for many years was used by the Rebbe Rabbi Elimelech Menachem Mendel Landau of Stryków.
During his second visit to the Land of Israel, in 1935, approximately a year before his death, he gave the stick as a gift to Rabbi Noah Gad Weintraub, a follower of the House of Stryków and author of many well-known Hassidic books.
Enclosed is a letter of confirmation by his son Rabbi Ya'akov David Weintraub.
Rabbi Elimelech Menachem Mendel Landau – the first Rebbe of Stryków (1860-1936), member of Mo'etzet Gedolei Ha'Torah and one of the leading Rebbes of Poland. Son of Rebbe Doverish Landau of Biala.
After his father's death, he and his brother Rabbi Aharon Zvi stayed at the court of Rebbe Yechiel of Alexander and his son Rabbi Yerachmiel Yisrael Yitzchak, the "Yismach Yisrael". After the "Yismach Yisrael" died without children, the Alexander Hassidim crowned Rabbi Elimelech Menachem's brother, Rabbi Aharon Zvi as Rebbe, however he died after half a year. The Hassidim then clung to his younger brother Rabbi Menachem Mendel and he established his court in the city of Stryków where he became renowned as one of the leaders of the Haredi community of Poland.
He was very close to the Jews of the Land of Israel and encouraged his Hassidim to settle there. As said, he visited the land of Israel twice and on one of these visits, stayed for a long time.
Height: 84 cm.
Condition: Good, cracks.
