About the book and its author
The Maggid Rabbi Menachem Nachum [Twersky] of Chernobyl (1730-1798, Encyclopedia Le'Chassidut 3, pp. 158-175), was one of the first members of the Hassidic Movement and the founder of the Chernobyl Hassidic dynasty. He was a disciple of the Ba'al Shem Tov and the Maggid of Mezritch and published one of the first works of Hassidic thought.
The book was first printed by the Hassidic printing house of Slavita subsequent to the request of the author, who had died while preparing the book for printing.
The two sections of the book, Me'or Enayim and Yismach Lev, were printed separately during the same year in Slavita. In the following editions, the two sections were combined and printed together.
The book was approbated by the most prominent Rebbes including Rabbi levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, Rabbi Meshulam Zussia of Annopol and more. The book also contains an important preface describing the author's virtues.
The most prominent Rebbes praised the book's greatness and holiness and used to study it daily and keep it as an amulet for protection. Some kept it regularly in their Tallit bag. On behalf of the Seer of Lublin and Rabbi Yitzchak of Skvyra (the author's grandson) it is said that the book has the ability to illuminate man's soul just as the holy Zohar!
Since its first edition, the book has been printed in dozens of editions and is studied by thousands of learners.
Condition: Good. Moth signs were professionally restored, with slight damage to text. There are several leaves which have gone through cleaning and now look good as new. The margins of the last leaf are stained and its corner is restored.
