Donation certificate Shekel HaYovel - World Zionist Organization.
1947.
Dimensions: 10.5X10 cm.
Condition; Excellent.
The Zionist Shekel: In short, it was a currency of the Zionist Organization, which was led by David Wolfson prior to the elections to the Second Zionist Congress. The currency was symbolic and converted at any distribution to the value in the local currency. The source of the name is in the ancient Hebrew currency - "shekel".
The Shekel was used with the establishment of the founding Zionist movement headed by Binyamin Zeev Herzl, and until the establishment of the State to mark an annual membership tax. The "weighted" person was a person who acquired a Zionist shekel, provided that he turned 18, and he acquired the right to elect delegates to the Zionist Congress for a year. Anyone who has reached the age of 24 years is also entitled to contend for himself. According to the number of shekels sold in each country, the number of delegates it was entitled to send to Congress was determined. Naturally, during the years in which elections to the Zionist Congress were not held, sales of the shekel declined. The shekel was a symbolic coin, but as a certificate of payment of the tax, it was given to every accountant in the form of a bill, on which images of the Zionist idea appeared, and sometimes a photograph of an ancient Jewish-Israeli coin.
