An important, touching letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Mordechai Eliasberg, one of the first rabbis who supported Chovevei Zion. Extremely rare!
The letter was most likely sent to one of the rabbis of the generation.
The first leaf of the letter is most likely missing. On the leaf before us, Rabbi Eliasberg writes: "Saying Shalom with great love to your brother-in-law the knowledgeable rabbi … Rabbi Ya'akov … and blessing him with love, Mordechai".
Then he writes: "Say hello on my behalf to your father and tell him that our hands are still outstretched to return the outcasts of Israel until God will be willing to gather all Israel together and we will not stop … until God builds Jerusalem …"
These touching words written by Rabbi Eliasberg reflect his devoted activity for the settlement of the Land of Israel!
A total of nine lines handwritten and signed by him. On the lower part of the leaf, a date is written, most likely 1888.

Rabbi Eliasberg
Rabbi Mordechai Eliasberg (1817-1889) was a rabbi, Av Beit Din of Wisek and one of the founders of the 'Chibat Zion' Movement.
Rabbi Kook said of Rabbi Eliasberg, "My opinions and thoughts about the future of the nation and its hopes were influenced by the opinions and perspectives of Rabbi Eliasberg, who was one of the few who delved into the depth of true Zionist thought"
On another occasion, Rabbi Kook spoke of the first three rabbis of Zionism, the Natziv of Volozhin, Rabbi Shmuel Mohilever and Rabbi Eliasberg and compared them to "thought, speech and action", Rabbi Eliasberg being compared to thought.
In 1883, during a central meeting of "Chovevei Zion" in Bialystok, Rabbi Eliasberg was chosen as a member of a committee organizing activities together with Rabbi Shmuel Mohilever and Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Yaffe. During the Druzgenik Congress, he was chosen as on eof th eGaba'im-consultants of Chovevei Zion of Russia together with the Natziv and Rabbi Mohilever.
