A Letter of Encouragement Handwritten by the Prophet of the State Binyamin Ze'ev Herzl to an Idealist Young Admirer - 1899
A German letter handwritten and signed by Herzl, the leader of the Zionist movement and prophet of the State, to a young admirer. Among others, Herzl writes (English translation) about "the man, who by his writing does not think of himself, his fame or profit, but just wants to act for ideas, which are good and just in his opinion".
The young admirer asked Herzl to write an article for the newspaper of the graduates of the gymnasium describing the time he had studied at the gymnasium. In the response before us, Herzl answers that he does not have time to write such an article and that probably, there is no much difference between his experiences as a student of the gymnasium and the writer's experiences.
The letter is written on the official stationery of the Viennese newspaper Neue Freie Presse for which Herzl had worked.
