Viking Diamond-Shaped Stirrup Mount
10th-11th century AD
A good example of a rarer form of Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup-mount, Williams’s Type 13, mostly found in East Anglia; the overall shape is lozengiform with discoid extensions at the upper and lateral extremities, the lateral discoids each contain a cast boss, and a third boss is placed symmetrically towards the lower edge; the fourth ‘boss’ is the rivet-head (still in place) in the upper discoid, the central motif is an inset lozenge. 13.07 grams, 42.81mm (1 1/2"). Fine condition.
Provenance
From an old English collection; found in the UK.
