"Thank G-d we survived the meteor stones (German airstrikes), when we were in danger at every moment… And why did Hashem Spare us? In order to save thousands of young women and agunos."

Fascinating Letter from Rabbi Shalom of Shotz Describing the Blitz in London During WWII

Letter from Rabbi Shalom of Shotz addressed to Rabbi Yose Zvi Dushinsky regarding the period of the Blitz in London, as well as the many agunos left after World War II.
Rabbi Shalom thanks G-d for having survived the "meteor stones, " referring to the countless German airstrikes on London known as the Blitz. He writes, "And why did we remain? In order to save the thousands of young women and agunos."

Rabbi Shalom explains that he compiled a response regarding the topic of agunos for Rabbi Yosef Tzvi to look over, requesting that he be lenient in the laws.
This letter is completely handwritten and signed by Rabbi Shalom.

Rabbi Shalom of Shotz (1875 - 1958) was the son of Rabbi Mordechai of Sulita. At the young age of twenty-five he was appointed Rabbi of Shotz and its environs. He eventually heeded the request of his followers in London and moved there. Rabbi Shalom was renowned as a holy and pious scholar to whom thousand flocked for blessing. Until this very day, many go to his kever in London to pray for salvation. He was the Teacher of Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin.
