Impressive Membership Certificate – Given to Rabbi Akiva Sofer Gaon Av Beit Din of Pressburg, the "Da'at Sofer" – Jerusalem, 1938

Membership certificate by HaEdah HaCharedit of the Ashkenazic community of Jerusalem. With the signature of the management of the city council. The 23rd of Adar, [1938].

In the certificate it is written:

"עד הכתב הזה ועדה התעודה שהנדיב הנכבד הרב הגאון הגדול המפורסם בנש"ק קכש"ת מוה"ר עקיבא סופר שליט"א גאב"ד בעיר ת' פרשבורג יע"א נרשם ע"י החברה הנכבדה "שלום ירושלם" בפפא"מ, בתור חבר בקהל עדת ישורון, עדת החרדים לדבר ד' בעהי"ק ירושלים... תעודה זו מזכה את החבר הנ"ל בכל הזכיות של החבר עדתנו ושמו נרשם לזכרון נצח בהיכל ד' בספר החברים תחת מספר 50 \ 51..."

Rabbi Akiva Sofer (1878-1960) author of "Da'at Sofer", one of the leaders of the Jews of Hungary. Head of Yeshiva and the last rabbi of Pressburg, a position which he held since he was 29, replacing his father Rabbi Shmicha Bonem Sofer, the "Shevet Sofer", for approx. thirty six years. With this position, he followed in the footsteps of his father, his grandfather the "Ketav Sofer" and his great-grandfather the "Chatam Sofer". He immigrated to the Land of Israel, having survived the Holocaust, and reestacblished the Pressburg Yeshiva in Jerusalem. He was a member of Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah.
