Rabbi Michael Dov Weissmandel survived the Holocaust and reached the USA, devoting himself to the establishment of the Nitra community, which had been led by his father-in-law who had perished in the Holocaust. For this purpose, he purchased land on Mount Cisco in the state of New York and formulated the new, original and bold idea of establishing a Jewish agricultural settlement in the area. He wrote the book before us – "HaYeshiva VeHaYishuv" (The Yeshiva and the Settlement). In the book he outlines a religious lifestyle based on a Yeshiva which is surrounded by a supporting community working the land.
